The museum commissioned this painting from Chae Eun Rhee. Her history-themed pieces combine images from different times and cultures: from museum objects – Honthorst’s Death of Seneca – to Korean street culture – K-pop, police officers – and digital phenomena like Instagram star Miquela. United on canvas, the seemingly random figures tell a story. Rhee responds to the constant changes in her world and places them in a long tradition. [text 2024]
