With his ‘Plinth’, Ger van Elk parodies the strict minimalism of the 1960s and 70s: minimal interventions in a plain white space, without any unnecessary fuss. Van Elk has teasingly added ruffles to his 'intervention', like the hem of a bourgeois valance. His conceptual art bursting with irony remains both ambitious and relativising however you look at it.
