This side table was designed by sculptor Jo Uiterwaal for his wedding to Wilhelmina van Kleef. The colours, shapes, and lines are clearly taken from De Stijl, possibly even from Gerrit Rietveld’s red and blue chair. Uiterwaal had attended a ‘cubist’ drawing club with him. Early 20th-century art reminds Jasper Hagenaar of museum visits in his youth. Here he was inspired by Uiterwaal’s Dansfiguren (Dancing Figures), from the same period as the table. [text 2025]
