For Bamboo Chair, the designer duo Remy & Veenhuizen experimented with gluing together and then bending thin sheets of bamboo. Bamboo is a sustainable alternative for hardwood. It grows quickly and is both flexible and robust. The designers were eager to make use of these properties, and drew inspiration from traditional Asian weaving techniques. Using seven curved and glued sheets of bamboo, they created a chair that resembles both a bird’s nest and a sculpture. [text 2023]
