The mortar was one of the apothecary’s most important tools. It was used for grinding medicinal plants, herbs and other substances for making medicines. According to the inscription on this mortar, made by the famous bell maker founder Steven Butendiic, it possibly belonged to an apothecary couple: ‘Peter die Becker and his wife Geertruit’.
