Schonzeit achieved the almost luminous colours in this cloudy sky by projecting his photos onto the canvas. Because he lost an eye at an early age, he sees things flatter than other people do. As a result, he is extra alert to depth of field, a photographic element that he recreates in his paintings using an airbrush. He deliberately blurs certain elements, such as the electrical wires here. The airbrush is much more precise than conventional brushes, producing an extremely smooth result. [text 2024]
