Stoel met gaten
Gijs Bakker co-founded Droog with Renny Ramakers. He is an industrial designer, specialising in jewellery and furniture. For the POI Foundation’s Chair Sweet Chair project, Bakker wanted to make a chair that was light, both literally and figuratively. Bakker drilled holes of three different sizes into a basic chair design, thus reducing the weight by a third. Bakker later designed more objects with holes, such as his Peepshow wallpaper, whose holes reveal the old wall beneath.

Stichting POI
Droog Design
Droog werd in 1993 opgericht door Renny Ramakers en Gijs Bakker met als doel Nederlandse vormgeving te promoten. De eerste Droog presentaties in Paradiso in Amsterdam en tijdens de Salone del Mobile in Milaan werden een wereldwijd succes. Droog stond op de kaart. De werken die de stichting promoot onderscheiden zich door het nuchtere, ironische en conceptuele karakter. Het was een springplank voor jonge ontwerpers als Hella Jongerius, Richard Hutten en Marcel Wanders.

- Project 'Chair sweet chairs'. De stoel is uitgebracht in genummerde oplage van 50 stuks. De gaten in de stoel zijn in drie richtingen geboord. Waar de constructie het meeste materiaal nodig heeft zijn ze het klainst. daardoor ontstaat een optische vertekening. het volume lijkt toe te nemen als de gaten groter worden. Door de gaten is de stoel lichter van gewicht georden: de stoel heeft daarmee bijna eenderde van zijn oorspronkelijk gewicht verloren.
