Elisabeth Adriani-Hovy, like the Van Baarens, was a member of ‘Genootschap Kunstliefde’ which was a 'modern drawing society with clothed models' and meeting place for artists, founded in 1807. From the 1930s onwards, her interest shifted from church interiors to still-lifes. She painted ‘Basket of Apples’ at the end of World War II and it was shown at an exhibition in her honour at Kunstliefde that same year. The Van Baarens bought the still-life directly from the artist. [text 2023]
