According to shoe designer Jan Jansen the shoe is a sculpture. Jansen does not make the shoe, he creates the shoe. His goal is “to create something which does not exist, to make technical discoveries”. He first acquired his technical expertise in Italy and the Netherlands. From that background Jansen continuously manages to create innovative, quirky silhouettes and constructions, and apply unique materials, often being far ahead of his time. This has resulted in creations like the revolutionary ‘floating wedge’, the Woody clog and the bamboo Rattan. This design was Jan Jansen’s international breakthrough, giving him recognition as an innovative designer.
