According to tradition, the renowned salesman and politician Abram van Rijkevorsel (1790-1864), wore this suit when he married twenty year old Marie Cornelie Saint Martin. It was a so-called 'hasty marriage', which safeguarded the twenty three year old Van Rijckevorsel from being called up to the Napoleon's elite army, the Garde d’Honneur. On their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary they paid a satirical tribute in verse to Napoleon. In this poem, kept in the family archive, Marie Saint Marie is thanked for being faithful to her husband and for her decision to marry him so quickly: "Have thanks, for the offer so fulfilled. You saved him by your love, for you, for us, for his family. Oh! Wonderful convergence, of human affairs! Napoleon's mad hope, made your happiness complete!"
