Loans

The Centraal Museum has a generous loan policy. Each year, it lends approximately 250 objects from its collection to around 70 exhibitions in the Netherlands and abroad. The following rules and conditions apply to ensure that the loan process runs smoothly.

A loan request must be submitted at least six months before the loan start date. Please include the following information in your request:

• name and address of the institution requesting the loan
• contact person (name, position, telephone number, postal address, email address)
• current facility report for the institution
• reason for the request (exhibition, research, etc.) and a brief description of the project
• exhibition period(s), name and location
• list of objects with inventory numbers

Applications will only be considered after a written request has been submitted to the director via loans@centraalmuseum.nl.

Costs arising from the loan (for example, condition reports and packaging) will be charged to the borrower. If, after a loan application has been taken into consideration, the borrower decides to withdraw the loan request in whole or in part, any costs incurred will be charged to the borrower.

Please note: Behind the scenes, we are busy preparing to move all 70,000 objects to a new storage facility in 2028. We therefore ask that, through 2029, you only request objects that are truly essential to your exhibition. We also ask for your understanding regarding the strict enforcement of the six-month application period for loans. Exceptions are no longer possible. Once the move is behind us, we will be happy to return to the generous lending policy for which we are known.
