About the workshop
During this encounter with the artist collective High on Type, you will explore writing as a collective act. The focus is not on the words, but on the act of writing, the tools you use to write, and the traces you leave behind.
The workshop is based on three principles: Act, Tool and Trace. First, you explore the act of writing itself: how does a line emerge, and how can you create a shared writing movement? Next, you make your own writing tool. Inspired by the wide range of materials and techniques in the exhibition, you experiment with unexpected tools. You then work together using your handmade tools. What kinds of marks emerge? How do lines turn into letters, words and meaning?
By creating, experimenting and reflecting together, a series of collective artworks emerges, each with its own distinctive signature.

About High on Type
High on Type is an international collective of artists, calligraphers and designers. Since its founding in 2013, the collective has celebrated the letter as an art form through work ranging from calligraphy and typography to performances, murals and installations. For High on Type, writing is about more than language alone. Guided by a philosophy of experimentation, collaboration and the beauty of imperfection, its members create work that surprises, connects and opens up new perspectives. The collective consists of Guido de Boer, Hans Schuttenbeld, Ivo Brouwer, Julien Priez and Vincent de Boer.
