De Wijk Centraal
A museum visit close to home: activities in every district of Utrecht.
With De Wijk Centraal, we aim to make visiting a museum more accessible to Utrecht residents who might not otherwise visit one, so that everyone feels welcome in our museum, no matter which neighbourhood they come from.
Art in the neighborhood
To introduce Utrecht residents to the museum, we are taking a mobile museum on wheels into the neighbourhoods ourselves. With reproductions of artworks and accessible activities such as workshops, we meet people in community centres, youth cultural centres and libraries.
We also bring local communities to the museum. We arrange transport from areas including Kanaleneiland, Overvecht and Leidsche Rijn. Visitors are picked up by bus and taken home later in the day. At the museum, a cup of coffee or tea will be waiting for you, and you can take part in activities, explore the collection and chat with other local residents.
