The Centraal Museum shows you more

The Centraal Museum has a multi-faceted collection of art, design, fashion and local history. Collection Centraal presents more than 400 works by makers from a range of periods. The new displays follow a route that starts in the Middle Ages and ends in the present. However, each thematic gallery shows you more, combining fashion with paintings and art of the past with contemporary design. This enables you to make connections between different periods and art forms.

In Collection Centraal you will find familiar favourites such as the Red Blue Chair by Gerrit Rietveld and iconic dresses by Viktor & Rolf alongside new favourites wating to be discovered. Combining works from the collection in this way provides new insights or a sense of recognition in every gallery.

Behind the scenes

In the video below, Marije Verduijn, head of collections management, takes you to our storage facility where we store more than 60,000 objects. These include Vincent van Gogh’s Sous-bois, one of the paintings we removed from the galleries to undertake work to make the museum more sustainable.
