These bas-reliefs are related to several films by Pauline Curnier Jardin about Catholic processions and rituals in Europe. For example, in Explosion ma Baby, a thousand men offer their naked babies (covered in banknotes) to St. Sebastian to cheers, chants and explosions. And in Fat to Ashes, the artist interweaves the Cologne carnival with a religious procession honouring St. Agatha with the slaughter of a pig. In Sebastiano Blu she tells the story of the handsome DJ Giorgetto and the party of the year, in honour of St Sebastian. Each bas-reliefs is the translation of one central scene from the film into ceramics. The bas-relief is an appropriate medium since these were traditionally used to share collective narratives, an early form of propaganda. [text 2023]
